Ovčácký pes
Výška v kohoutku: Psi 65-75 cm,feny 60-70 cm
Zbarvení srsti: Vlčí šeď,srnčí hnědé,světle krémové až bílé
Původ: Snahou chovatele Leenderta Saarloose bylo vyšlechtění ,,spotřebního" psa s přirozenými vlastnostmi,geneticky fixovanými křížením německého ovčáka a vlka.Původního cíle ale nebylo dosaženo,a tak vznikl pouze pes s výrazně původními prvky chování.
Využití: Doprovodný pes.
Charakter a chování: Saarloosův vlčák je velmi živý pes plný energie,s nezávislím chvoáním a charakterem odmítající podřízení.Na svého pána je však vázán,zatímco k cizím lidem se chová rezervovaně a nedůvěřivě.Je velmi obezřetný,se silně vyvinutým únikovým pudem.
Chov: Jde o velmi problematického až problémového psa,s nížm si poradí jen zkušení kynologové,dokonale obeznámení s jeho povahou.Je to velmi svéhlavý pes,který se podřizuje v případě,jestliže sám přijme vedení.Nelze jej vychovávat přísně nebo tvrdě,jedinou cestou je pochopení jeho osobnosti a akceptování jeho nezávislosti.Vyžaduje pohyb a vhodné zaměstnání,odpovídající jeho charakteru.Saarloosovu vlčákovi vyhovuje např. strážení velké a dobře zajištěné usedlosti.Péče o jeho srst je snadná.Pes silně líná.
